Cascade House
Punta Fuego, Philippines
The challenge was to provide generous spaces on a steeply sloping site with narrow street and ocean frontage. A primary design directive was to present a modest façade to the public street: Our solution is a three-tiered, terraced site plan with two building masses contained in 4500 square feet. The temperate climate allows for use of the space between two buildings as an exterior entry foyer, while all the major rooms face the ocean and the courtyards. The smaller building contains the master suite while the rest of the spaces are contained in the larger building. The house is visually anchored at the water's edge by a heavily rusticated base made of indigenous stone.
