A simple rectangular volume in the landscape represents the deliberate act of creating a singular abstract gesture: The dark solid stain finish accentuates the abstraction. Southeastern orientation of the floor to ceiling glass maximizes passive solar gain. A geothermal system with three wells, each over 300 feet deep, provides heating and cooling. A radiant system that is imbedded under the limestone floors which cover the entire four bedroom living area acts as a super-efficient heat sink and provide comfort year-round. Closets and bathrooms are contained within a series of lacquered, box-like enclosures that float within the rectangular volume. Strategically located skylights minimize the need for artificial lighting and further enhance energy efficiency.
